The Night NSD Stood Up for Children

In "The School for Wives" by Molière, performed at the National School of Drama, Delhi, our young ensemble rose to a challenge that would daunt seasoned actors. Led by director Mudita Choudhary, the children reimagined Molière's classic — not as mere farce, but as a tender study of human frailty. Arnolf, played with astonishing depth, became not a comic villain but a man undone by his own fears. Around him, the entire cast balanced melodrama and tragedy with effortless precision, transforming each character into someone achingly alive.

The stalwarts of NSD watched in disbelief. These were not drama school graduates. These were 9th and 10th graders — barely teenagers — who had absorbed their director's vision and made it their own. The play earned rare acclaim, not for being good "for children," but for being extraordinary, period. They did not just perform Molière. They reawakened him.
